Quimbanda Consultations, Services, and Mentorship

The Pact is set to open this year, complete with products, artwork, and services. While the main site is still being built and products being made and stocked and curated, we are currently able to offer services, readings, and mentorship in Brazilian Quimbanda through Cabula Mavile Kitula kia Njila. Jesse Hathaway Diaz, Tata Apokan, was made a Tata Quimbanda in Minas Gerais, Brazil in 2009. He has performed consultations, services, and taught classes in Quimbanda for over a decade, as well as heading a house of Quimbanda in New York. He continues to travel back and forth to Brazil to continue his studies, both within the tradition and as a scholar of religion and performance (he holds a Masters in Performance Studies, NYU 2021). For ease of scheduling, our Quimbanda readings and services are best broken down into three options:

• General Consultation: This is a 45 minute session in consultation with Exu, Pombagira, and the Ancestors. All things begin with divination, and all workings and spells are prescribed through divination. The first part of the reading will be in dialog with the Ancestors and Spirits that come forward in the reading, and then the client is encouraged to ask questions and bring issues to the oracle. Courses of action and possible remediations may be recommended. These readings are generally performed with Vititi Ngombo, the Bone Oracle of Kimbanda Kongo, and performed live. An audio recording of the reading will be provided within 3-5 business days.

• Consultation to Determine Exu & Pombagira: This is a 60 minute session in consultation with Exu and Pombagira to determine one's path in Quimbanda, including confirming the identities of one's personal Exu and Pombagira. An audio recording of the reading is provided within 3-5 business days as well as a brief written report with further information.

• Mentorship: If you're new to Quimbanda or want some feedback on a particular aspect of your practice, I am happy to offer mentorship sessions. These can be anything from how to confidently conduct a session, establish firmeza, find an appropriate ponto cantado, or recipes for padês to honor your spirits.
